In my quest for the lowest fares for air travel, I make it a point to check all of the travel sites: Expedia, Orbitz, Hotwire, CheapestSeats, LowestFare.
By far, Travelocity beat them with a rate of $133 round trip per person on TWA out of Kennedy Airport.
The website is easy to use - the standard of most of the travel sites. The Travelocity home page has a simple search using the departure city, number of adults traveling, destination, departure date and return date.
For a more involved itinerary, the advance flight search options are available. Travelocity lets you choose the dates, destination, time preference, number of travelers, fare type (economy, business class, etc.), number of connections you will consider, and airline preference (if any). Travelocity.com offers a good, user- friendly flight search system. I
like the way that it allows you to quickly change the times of
arrival/departure on the search results page, and then search again.
One thing it doesn’t let you do, from this page, is change your airport. It would be more complete if they would add that as an option. The way it works now, you have to either press back on your browser, and enter a new airport code, or press the icon for a new flight search.
This flight search is a little slower than other ones that I have used. Depending on your connection speed, you might have to exercise some patience while you wait for Travelocity.com to display the search results. For myself, it takes about 20 seconds to display, although it seems much longer than that. "

I really like the search engine on Travelocity because it not only lets you search for a particular airport, but there is also an option to search airports within 70 miles at the same time. This is a very handy feature if you live close to several airports or your destination has several airports in a cluster (south Florida, for example). Other sites make you do these searches individually which is time consuming and can get confusing.
Travelocity also lets you prefer non-stop flights. When I travel with my kids, I only consider non-stop flights. At this stage in my life, no matter the extra cost, nothing is worse than dragging small children and luggage across a terminal or missing a connection. " |
